Ceramic Dental Crowns

A crown should do two jobs perfectly: protect a compromised tooth for years to come, and disappear into your smile so completely that no one knows it’s there. Ceramic crowns at GD Dentistry accomplish both. Metal-free, biocompatible, and color-matched to your natural enamel, they’re our restoration of choice for patients who refuse to trade strength for beauty — or beauty for strength.

When Is a Ceramic Crown the Right Choice?

A crown fully covers a damaged tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and function. We often recommend ceramic crowns for:

Unlike older porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, all-ceramic crowns have no dark metal line at the gumline and transmit light the way natural enamel does — which is why they look so convincingly real.

Same-Day Crowns, Milled In Our Office

Here’s where GD Dentistry differs from most practices: in many cases, we design, mill, and place your ceramic crown in a single visit. Using E4D and CEREC CAD/CAM technology, we take a digital scan of your tooth — no messy impression trays — design the crown on screen, and mill it from a solid ceramic block right in the office.

That means no temporary crown to babysit for two weeks, no second appointment, and no second round of numbing. You walk in with a damaged tooth and walk out with a permanent, polished restoration.

For complex cases, our in-house dental lab handles the craftsmanship — still faster and more tightly quality-controlled than shipping work to an outside facility.

Precision You Can See

Every crown starts with accurate diagnostics. Digital X-rays and, when needed, 3D CBCT imaging let us evaluate the tooth and root structure before we prepare anything. For anxious patients, IV sedation is available — a crown appointment can be genuinely relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do ceramic crowns last?

With good home care and regular checkups, ceramic crowns commonly last 10 to 15 years or longer. Avoiding ice-chewing and wearing a night guard if you grind will extend their life.

Can I really get a crown in one appointment?

In many cases, yes. Our in-office E4D and CEREC systems let us scan, design, mill, and cement a permanent ceramic crown in a single visit.

Are ceramic crowns as strong as metal crowns?

Modern ceramics are remarkably strong and handle normal biting forces very well. For patients with heavy grinding habits, we’ll recommend the ideal material and protective options at your consultation.

Will the crown match my other teeth?

Yes. We shade-match each crown to your surrounding teeth, and because ceramic handles light like natural enamel, the result blends seamlessly.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The area is fully numbed, and most patients describe the visit as no more intense than a filling. IV sedation is available if you’d prefer to be deeply relaxed.
