The traditional crown process asks a lot of you: two appointments, two rounds of anesthetic, goopy impression trays, and two to three weeks wearing a plastic temporary that may pop off at the worst possible moment. E4D technology at GD Dentistry eliminates all of it. This chairside CAD/CAM system lets us scan, design, and mill a permanent ceramic restoration in a single visit — you arrive with a damaged tooth and leave with a finished crown.
How E4D Works
1. Digital Scan Instead of Impressions
A small intraoral camera captures a precise 3D image of your prepared tooth in minutes. No trays, no gagging, no material hardening in your mouth.
2. On-Screen Design
Your restoration is designed digitally, shaped to your bite and matched to the contours of your neighboring teeth. The software measures your anatomy with an accuracy hand-made impressions can’t reliably match.
3. In-Office Milling
The design goes straight to our milling unit, which carves your restoration from a solid block of high-strength ceramic while you wait — often in well under an hour.
4. Same-Day Placement
We verify fit, bite, and shade, then bond your permanent restoration. One visit, one numbing, done.

E4D is the production end of our fully digital workflow. Diagnostics from digital radiography and 3D CBCT imaging inform the plan, and complex or highly esthetic cases move to our in-house dental lab for hand-finished artistry. Most same-day cases involve ceramic crowns, but the technology also produces inlays, onlays, and veneers in select cases.

How long does a same-day E4D crown appointment take?
Plan for roughly two hours start to finish — preparation, scanning, milling, and bonding all in one sitting. Compare that with two separate visits weeks apart the traditional way.
Are milled same-day crowns as strong as lab crowns?
Yes. E4D restorations are milled from solid blocks of proven high-strength ceramic. For unusually complex or demanding cases, our in-house lab is right there as well.
Is a digital scan really better than an impression?
For accuracy and comfort, yes. Digital scans eliminate the distortion that can occur with impression materials — and nobody misses the trays.
What’s the difference between E4D and CEREC?
