Sedation Dentistry in New York & Connecticut
If fear has kept you out of the dental chair for years, you are not weak-willed and you are not alone — dental anxiety is one of the most common phobias there is. You are also exactly who we built our sedation program for. At GD Dentistry, sedation dentistry — up to and including IV sedation for truly phobic patients — means you can finally get the care you have been putting off, comfortably, and often with years of needed treatment completed in just one or two visits.
Who Benefits From Sedation
- Patients with dental fear or a past traumatic dental experience
- Anyone facing a long or complex procedure, such as multiple extractions, bone grafting, or implant surgery
- People with a strong gag reflex that makes treatment difficult
- Patients whose jaws tire or ache during lengthy appointments
- Those who struggle to get numb with local anesthetic alone
- Busy patients who want extensive work condensed into fewer visits
Your Sedation Options
Sedation is not one-size-fits-all. After reviewing your health history and the treatment planned, we recommend the right level:
- Nitrous oxide: Light relaxation that takes effect in minutes and wears off just as fast — you can drive yourself home.
- Oral sedation: A prescribed medication taken before your visit that leaves you deeply relaxed and drowsy, though still responsive.
- IV sedation: The deepest option we offer, delivered and monitored throughout your procedure. You remain able to respond but rest in a sleep-like state — and most patients remember little or nothing afterward. This is the option that changes everything for phobic patients.
With IV sedation, the level is adjustable in real time, your vital signs are monitored continuously, and long procedures feel like they lasted minutes.
Safety First, Always
Every sedation patient is screened with a thorough medical history review before anything is scheduled. During treatment, you are monitored from the moment sedation begins until you are fully alert. For oral and IV sedation, you will need a companion to drive you home — and you will likely spend the ride surprised at how easy it was.
Sedation pairs naturally with urgent care, too. If pain has finally forced the issue, our emergency treatment team can combine same-day relief with the comfort you need to go through with it. Start with a free consultation — no lectures about how long it has been, just a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be unconscious with IV sedation?
No — IV sedation is not general anesthesia. You remain able to breathe on your own and respond to us, but you are deeply relaxed and will likely remember little or none of the appointment.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes, for properly screened patients. We review your full medical history and medications beforehand and monitor you continuously during treatment. Safety protocols are the foundation of our sedation program.
Can I get all my dental work done in one visit with sedation?
Often, yes — that is one of its biggest advantages. Procedures that would normally span four or five appointments can frequently be consolidated into one or two sedation visits.
I’m embarrassed about how long it’s been since I saw a dentist. Will I be judged?
Never. Patients who have been away for ten or twenty years walk through our doors every week. Our job is to get you healthy comfortably, not to revisit the past.
How much does sedation cost?
It depends on the type and duration of sedation your treatment requires. We review costs transparently at your free consultation so there are no surprises.
